Beautiful handmade sculpture in ceramic, painted with glazes and modeled following traditional techniques.
In this exquisite bas-relief, ispired by a 11th century Byzantine icon now displayed in the Basilica di San Marco, Venice, Maria is depicted while holding her Son, both directing their glaze towards the observer. The original painting is now displayed in the Basilica di San Marco, Venice.
Since the day of its arrival, in 1204, this painting of Maria Nicopeia (”who brings us victory”) has been deeply loved and worshipped by the Venetians.
Given its double firing at about 1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
