Beautifully modeled bas-relief in terracotta, entirely handmade and painted with red, yellow and orange engobes, following the ancient techniques.
It is a free interpretation of a marble slab of the Akropolis of Athens, the "Mourning Athena" a masterpiece of the “severe style” (470–460 b. C. Athens, Akropolis Museum). The goddess, who wears a Corinthian helmet and stands barefoot, is leaning forward, on her spear, and bows her head. Her posture indicates a sad pensiveness, probably for the consequences of war, as the stone slab, the grave marker in front of Athena, probably indicates.
Given its firing at about 1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
