Beautifully handmade basrelief in terracotta, richly painted with red engobes. Given its firing at about 1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
This Ithaca's bas-relief is a free interpretation of a marble slab of the Akropolis of Athens, a masterpiece of the “severe style” (470- 460 b. C.).
Athena, daughter of Zeus and Metis, was the goddess of wisdom, reason, handicraft and wise warfare, often in contrast with her brother, Ares, god of a different, crueller kind of war, which brings only meaningless destruction. She was also the patroness of Athens, which she defended from powerful enemies: according to many myths, the city thrived in archaic times thanks to her leadership.
Given its firing at about 1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
