Very refined sculpture in ceramic, painted with glazes and modeled folllowing traditional techniques. The Praying Mary here sculpted freely reproduces the marble icon of S. Maria in Porto at Ravenna. In its artistic excellence and elegance, the original piece reveals its Byzantine provenience: Constantinople, second half of the 11th century.
Given its double firing at about 1000° C, this Ithaca's sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold, rain or ice.
