Refined and elegant sculpture, modelled in painted ceramic.
This expressive bas-relief is freely inspired by the bronze one by Donatello, depicting the Lion of St Mark, displayed on the main altar of St Anthony's Basilica in Padua (mid 15th century). The winged Lion is the symbol of Venice, because the winged lion described in the book of Revelation (Rv. 4,7) was identified as being St Mark the Evangelist, buried in the main church of the city.
Twice fired at about 1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold, rain or ice.
