Venus

Elegant sculpture in terracotta, richly painted with engobes and modelled following  ancient Roman and Greek techniques.

The bas-relief represents the goddess Venus, and is inspired by the famous Venus of Capua, a copy in marble, now preserved in Neaples, of the lost Aphrodite sculpted by Lysippus, one of the greatest artist of classical Greece. 

Goddess of beauty, love, fertility and victory, Venus is here depicted standing with a foot over a helmet, her arms raised, probably, to hold a shield, now lost. Love and grace win over hatred, destruction and war, this is the message of this superb work of art. 

Given its firing at about  1000° C, the sculpture can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
