This impressive, handmade sculpture is an accurate reproduction of an ancient mask found on the little island Motya (Mozia), near Marsala, Sicily. The sacred area in which it was found was a tofet, a field where sacrifices were held for the most important of the Phoenician gods. Remains of burned bones, both of infants and lambs, have been found in urns covered with carved stones: these remains can be dated to the VIII-VI Century b.C.

The original sculpture is preserved in the Museo G. Whitaker.

Given its firing at about 1000° C, the Phoenician Sneering God by Ithaca can be placed outside and won't be damaged by sun, cold or ice.
