This beautiful, handcrafted sculpture in terracotta, modelled with great attention to detail and following ancient techniques, is inspired by a fresco with a dancing cupid. The original Roman painting dates back to 54 – 68 a.D. and was discovered in the “Villa di San Marco” at Stabiae. Now it is preserved in the Antiquarium in
Castellammare di Stabia (Naples).

Cupid, or Eros, represented as a child or young boy with wings, personifies, in Roman-Greek mythology, love, desire, and passion. Agathon, in Plato's Symposium, defines him with the following words: "Eros, if it meet and right to say so, is happiest among them (among all gods), because he's most beautiful and best.(...) He is youngest among gods".
